The Bavarians will meet Union Berlin in one of their most crucial games of the season.
Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed Thomas Muller will start for Bayern Munich in their upcoming match against Union Berlin.
Borussia Monchengladbach defeated Bayern 3-2 last weekend after they went a man down in the ninth minute. Naglesmann made a drastic decision to replace Muller with Joao Cancelo only seven minutes later.
The substitution wasn’t enough for the Bavarians to escape the defeat, generating criticism toward the coach. Nagelsmann has now confirmed the veteran forward will return to Bayern’s starting lineup against Union.
“Thomas is a very experienced player, he was told why the decision was made,” the German manager said on Friday.
“You can always discuss it afterwards. I spoke to Thomas at length and clearly he is not happy.
“He is very professional and an important player. His importance is huge because it goes beyond the game itself. He will start on Sunday, he is aware of the overall situation.”
The defeat against Gladbach saw Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin go level on points with Bayern at the top of the table. This weekend, Bayern will take on Union while Dortmund travel to Hoffenheim.
Having defeated Ajax 3-1 in the Europa League playoffs, Union are eager to continue their brilliant run of results by reaching Bundesliga’s top spot on Sunday.
