The young Norwegian hitman could spark a fierce transfer battle in the summer as he is said to be a target for almost every big club in Europe.
Bayern Munich are the “only step” for Erling Haaland if he decides to stay in Bundesliga, according to Lothar Matthaus.
Haaland has a €75 million release clause on his Borussia Dortmund contract which will come into play from June 2022.
Given the relatively cheap nature of the clause and the fact that his stock continues to soar, it won’t come as a surprise if a transfer war among European heavyweights breaks out for the striker in the summer.
At just 20 years of age, he has already established himself as one of the best strikers in the world. Many consider Dortmund to be a stepping stone for the forward who has scored 43 goals in as many games for the club.
Real Madrid are heavily linked with his signing while FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich have all been mentioned as the next destination for the prolific Norwegian.
“Haaland is already on the list of top clubs, right at the top as a striker,” Matthaus told Sport 1.
“At Real Madrid, because with Karim Benzema, they have a player of a certain age. His father has already played in the Premier League. That could be interesting too.
“He will not serve Borussia Dortmund for life. He’ll look for bigger clubs, he’ll get a higher income. If he stays in the Bundesliga, there is only one step for him: FC Bayern.”
