The Bavarians are keen to add a new midfielder to their ranks next summer.

Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan.

The German midfielder has enjoyed incredible form this season, continuing his key role in the Citizens’ midfield.

The club has shown serious interest in extending Gundogan’s deal, but they might face competition from Bayern.

According to 90min, the Bundesliga champions are eager to return Gundogan to Germany. Having left Dortmund on a £20m seven years ago, he could return to his homeland as a free agent.

Gundogan’s current deal at Etihad expires next summer, with no signs of a contract renewal being imminent. Bayern, on the other hand, have confirmed they will spend a quiet winter transfer window to save funds for the next summer.

The Bavarians can enter direct negotiations to sign a pre-contract with Gundogan this January. However, the midfielder’s crucial place in Pep Guardiola’s lineup might convince City to tie him down to a new deal before then.

The German star has made over 250 appearances for the Citizens, playing in several different positions under the Spanish coach.

Having signed Sadio Mane last summer, let’s see if Gundogan and Harry Kane would become the next Premier League stars to choose Bayern as their next destination.
