Bayern have pulled out of the race to sign Rice amid competition from Man City and Arsenal.
Bayern Munich are reportedly considering a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
The German champions are in the market for new midfielders this summer. Having already completed a move for Konrad Laimer, Bayern entered the transfer race for West Ham’s Declan Rice.
However, the midfielder’s preference to continue his career in England and competition from Arsenal and Manchester City convinced the Bavarians to avoid making a formal offer for him.
According to Sky Germany, Bayern are now intensifying their efforts to bring De Jong to Allianz Arena. The Dutchman is under contract at Barcelona until 2026 but the Catalans might be open to selling him due to their wage-cap issues.
Bayern showed interest in signing De Jong last summer but pulled out of the race when Manchester United made an unsuccessful attempt to add him to their squad.
Despite his brilliant form, De Jong wasn’t able to secure a regular spot in Xavi’s lineup last season. The arrival of Ilkay Gundogan could further limit the Dutchman’s playing time at Camp Nou.
In addition to De Jong, Bayern are also monitoring Kalvin Phillips’ situation at Manchester City. The former Leeds United star faces a similar problem to De Jong at Manchester City. Last season, Phillips made only two Premier League starts at the English top flight.
