The Spaniard completed a shock loan move to spend the second half of the season at Bayern.

Bayern Munich might not be able to meet Manchester City’s demands for Joao Cancelo’s permanent transfer, admits Hasan Salihamidzic.

The Bavarians signed Cancelo on a six-month loan deal in the final stages of the winter transfer window. According to widespread reports in German media, the Bundesliga champions have included a €70million buy option in Cancelo’s contract.

But Salihamidzic admits the Bavarians might have to return the world-class right-back at the end of the season.

Bayern’s sporting director told Bild am Sonntag: “We’re playing with open cards. The most important thing is that Joao feels comfortable in Munich and can perform in the second half of the season.

“But we also made it clear to him that this sum is difficult for us to imagine in the next few years.”

He added: “If all sides absolutely want a common solution, you can manage that in the end. He knows that he has been one of our dream players for years.”

Bayern will most likely negotiate with Man City over Cancelo’s possible permanent move to Allianz Arena in June. The 28-year-old’s reported “broken” relationship with Pep Guardiola could convince the Citizens to allow his exit for a lower transfer fee.
