The Bavarians are keen to increase their squad depth in the upcoming transfer window by signing a new defender.

Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing a move for Clement Lenglet in the January transfer window.

Lenglet returned to Barcelona after a season-long loan spell at Tottenham in the summer. However, the centre-back’s desire to secure more playing time convinced him to accept another loan offer immediately, this time to Aston Villa.

Under Unai Emery, Lenglet has yet to make his Premier League debut for Villa, with all five of his appearances being in the UEFA Conference League. It seems the centre-back will now have a new transfer choice to make ahead of the second half of the campaign.

According to Bild, Lenlet has emerged as a transfer target for Bayern as they are eager to add a new centre-back to their ranks. The German outlet has estimated that signing the Frenchman would cost Bayern around €10m.

Bayern added Kim-min Jae to their backline after Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard‘s departures in the summer. However, the injury of Matthijs de Ligt has exposed Bayern’s unimpressive squad depth ahead of the January transfer window. Kim’s minor injury forced Thomas Tuchel to use Leon Goretzka alongside Dayot Upamecano at the heart of Bayern’s defence line against Copenhagen last week.

Lenglet is under contract at Barcelona until 2026, but the Catalan side are reportedly open to negotiating the 28-year-old’s permanent transfer this winter.
