The Bavarians have added a new centre-back to their ranks ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Bayern Munich have confirmed the arrival of Kim Min-jae from Napoli.

The Bundesliga giants started their efforts to sign a new midfielder after Lucas Hernandez’s move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.

The club eventually decided to activate Kim’s €50m release clause at Napoli, adding him to the squad ahead of their pre-season tour in Asia.

“FC Bayern is every footballer’s dream. I’m really looking forward to everything that awaits me in Munich,” the South Korean star said. “For me it means a new beginning, I will continue to develop here.

“During the talks with the club, it was made clear to me right from the start how big the interest in me is. My first goal is to play a lot of games. In addition, I want to win as many titles as possible.”

Kim’s arrival will provide Thomas Tuchel with another reliable option at the heart of Bayern’s backline. The former Napoli star will compete with Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano for a regular line-up spot.

Bayern will face Manchester City in their first game of their pre-season tour on Wednesday. The Bavarians will then take on Kawasaki, Liverpool, and Monaco before meeting RB Leipzig in the German Supercup final.
