The highly-rated 33-year-old will be in the dugout at the Allianz Arena next season onward, with the treble-winning manager set to walk away from his role.

Bayern Munich have announced Julian Nagelsmann as Hansi Flick’s successor, with the RB Leipzig head coach to become their new manager from July 1.

Nagelsmann has signed a five-year contract with Bayern after the German champions paid a sum of €25 million to release him from his Leipzig contract.

Flick, who guided the team to a historic sextuple in 2019-20, has been allowed to step down from his position at the end of the season with the Bavarians agreeing to terminate the contract that had him tied to the club until 2023.

The European titleholders were linked with a number of top names ever since it became apparent that their manager would walk away but the man working with their domestic rivals was reportedly always a top priority, and now they have made his imminent appointment official.

“Julian Nagelsmann stands for a new generation of trainers,” Bayern president Herbert Hainer told the official club website.

“Despite his young age, he has had an impressive career. We are convinced that with Julian Nagelsmann we will build on the great successes of the past few years.

“I would like to expressly thank Hansi Flick on behalf of FC Bayern. He took over our team in a difficult phase in 2019 and then won six titles, the seventh will hopefully follow soon. He will always have a place in the history books of FC Bayern. We wish him all the best for his future.”

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic went added: “The discussions with Julian were very cooperative, very constructive. We’ll have a lot of fun with him, I’m sure of that.

“I would like to express my thanks to Hansi Flick. After he took over the position of head coach a good one-and-a-half years ago, we celebrated numerous victories and titles, the triple in 2020 was the highlight. These successes will remain associated with his name. I wish him all the best on his future path.”
