The Bavarians started their new UCL campaign with a narrow home win.
Bayern Munich defeated Manchester United 4-3 in their Champions League game on Wednesday. A thrilling game saw Bayern edge out their injury-ridden opponents at Allianz Arena.
What happened?
Bayern struggled to find their feet in the game as Man Utd managed to create a few chances early on. However, the Bavarians soon established their dominance over the game, putting their opponents under constant pressure.
The hosts’ efforts paid off when Andre Onana spilt Leroy Sane’s low shot into United’s net in the 28th minute. Only four minutes later, Serge Gnabry made it 2-0 for the German giants after a spectacular solo run and assist from Jamal Musiala.
Bayern had a few more chances to increase their lead before the break. However, it was Manchester United who got back into the game at the beginning of the second period.
Rasmus Hojlund scored in his Champions League debut, but Bayern restored their two-goal lead through Harry Kane’s penalty only four minutes later.
Bayern stayed in complete control of the game as they were 3-1 ahead. The hosts missed a host of golden chances to increase their lead, hitting the post twice. However, United managed to come back into the game through Casemiro’s goal in the 88th minute.
Bayern didn’t allow the hosts to mount a comeback. A brilliant through pass from Joshua Kimmich and Mathys Tel’s powerful shot made it 4-2 in the 92nd minute. Casemiro completed his brace with a header three minutes later, but it was already too late for the Red Devils to escape the defeat.
