The Citizens reached the semi-finals as Bayern failed to mount a comeback on home soil.

Bayern Munich drew 1-1 with Manchester City in their Champions League game on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola’s side reached the next round on the back of a brilliant 4-1 victory on aggregate.

Haaland strikes again!

Bayern Munich started off as the better side as they dominated the possession for the first 20 minutes of the game. The Bavarians created a host of chances but failed to convert them.

Similar to the first leg, Leroy Sane missed a golden chance to open the scoring for Thomas Tuchel’s men. That wasn’t enough to slow the pace of Bayern’s attacks, but another mistake from Dayot Upamecano nearly killed off the game for City ten minutes later.

A shot from Ilkay Gundogan hit the Frenchman’s arm, with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. However, Erling Haaland missed the penalty to keep Bayern in the game.

Bayern started the second half on the front foot, gradually increasing the pressure on City’s backline down both flanks. But a fantastic counter-attack from the Citizens secured their victory in the 57th minute.

Haaland received Kevin De Bruyne’s through ball, with Upamecano slipping before him inside the box. The Norwegian striker then smashed the ball past Yann Sommer with a powerful shot into the top-right corner of the net.

Tuchel made a host of changes after the goal as Bayern lost hopes for a possible comeback. The Bavarians kept on creating chances and finally scored the equalizer through a penalty in the 81st minute.

Joshua Kimmich’s goal, however, was nowhere near enough to prevent City from reaching the semi-finals with a 4-1 victory on aggregate.

Bayern will now switch focus on keeping the first spot in the Bundesliga standings, as they travel to Mainz on Saturday. City will meet Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final clash at Santiago Bernabeu on May 9. But first, they have to face Sheffield United in the FA Cup this weekend and prepare for four more Premier League games that are on the plan in the upcoming two weeks.
