Bayern’s poor start under Thomas Tuchel continues as Dortmund close in on their arch-rivals on the table.
Hoffenheim held Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw in their Bundesliga game on Saturday. The Bavarians lacked the finishing touch as their top-of-the-table lead vanished.
Tuchel OUT? 🥴
Bayern came into the game on the back of their 3-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League. Unlike that game, however, Bayern found a solid start against Hoffenheim.
Following a few missed chances in the opening minutes, Benjamin Pavard made it 1-0 for the hosts.
Kingsley Coman fired the ball back into Hoffenheim’s box after a cleared corner. The loose ball found Pavard, who latched onto it before unleashing a powerful shot past the keeper.
Bayern had a few missed chances to extend their lead as they stayed in control of the possession. However, the visitors were able to change the course of the game after the break.
Tuchel’s decision to bring out the likes of Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka only made things worse for the Bavarians as Hoffenheim increased the pressure.
The visitors finally got their deserved equalizer through a fantastic free-kick from Andrej Kramaric. The Croatian star found an inch of space between Bayern’s defensive wall and the post, slotting the ball past Yann Sommer.
Bayern pushed hard to restore their lead in the final 20 minutes, even scoring a disallowed goal through Pavard. However, they lacked enough attacking edge to find the back of the net again at Allianz Arena.
Lucky for Bayern, Dortmund conceded a 97th-minute equalizer in their match against Stuttgart. A 3-3 draw at Mercedes-Benz Arena keeps Bayern two points ahead of their arch-rivals at the top of the table.
