The European champions’ hectic fixture list has led to much injury concerns, and yet another player is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Javi Martinez is the latest Bayern Munich player to be forced onto the treatment table, the club confirmed on Monday.
The veteran midfielder was handed a rare start in Saturday’s crunch clash against RB Leipzig. However, he could not last for even half an hour as a muscle injury forced him off the pitch at the 25-minute mark.
Just before being replaced by Jamal Musiala, he was seen limping after supposedly stretching the groin on his left thigh while attempting a tackle.
Bayern released a medical report on Martinez’s injury without proving the exact timeframe for his recovery.
The report on the club’s website read: “FC Bayern will be without Javi Martinez for the foreseeable future. The Spain international suffered a muscle injury to his left thigh in the Bundesliga top-of-the-table clash against RB Leipzig on Saturday evening.
“The diagnosis was confirmed after an examination by the German record champions’ medical unit.”
It is expected that Martinez, who has made 16 appearances for Bayern so far this season, will remain unavailable for match selection until at least the turn of the year.
