A number of eye-catching performances have seen the Frenchman emerge into one of the most sought-after players in Europe.
Dayot Upamecano has a release clause worth €42.5 million on his RB Leipzig contract, according to his agent.
Upamecano has build a reputation as one of the most highly-rated defenders ever since jumping ship from Salzburg to Leipzig four years ago.
The 22-year old’s rise to prominence came last season when he put in strong defensive displays that helped his side reach up to the semi-finals of the Champions League and seal a third-place finish in Bundesliga.
Ahead of the summer, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with the defender who is tied to the German club until 2023.
“The release clause was agreed because the player decided to want to take the next step at some point. It is very likely in the summer,” Volker Struth, Upamecano’s agent, told Sport1.
“The release clause is €42.5 million. That is an insane sum in coronavirus times. In summer 2019 it was something else. The proportions of the transfer fees have changed. I believe that some clubs have to say goodbye to the market values when they sell players.”
