The Bavarians enjoyed a historic 2019-20 as they maintained their domestic supremacy while were also able to dominate in Europe.

Thomas Muller has acknowledged the slip in standards by Bayern Munich this season.

Bayern celebrated their eighth straight Bundesliga success last season, finishing an impressive 14 points clear at the top of the table.

Hansi Flick’s side were a force to reckon with in the Champions League last time out as they were not found on the wrong end of a scoreline even once en route to winning club football’s most prestigious prize.

The German and European champions were also able to get their hands on their 20th DFB Pokal to complete a treble.

Fast forward to today, and there has been a noticeable decline in Bayern’s form. They have already exited the DFB-Pokal after a shock defeat to second-tier Holstein Kiel and have dropped 10 points from their opening 19 league fixtures.

“The ease from the previous season has faded a little. We couldn’t quite take the magic from the summer into the new season,” Muller told Kicker.

“In November and December, we had many close results with an unusually high number of goals conceded. It takes a lot more to be at the top in the Bundesliga.”

“The public and the whole league are thirsting for Bayern to finally be thrown from the throne. You are constantly under observation, there is always a magnifying glass on it.

“Every single player has to show himself and the outside world that he can go this level.”
