It will be a battle of the titans in Champions League final with Bayern Munich locking horns with Paris Saint-Germain for continental honors.

Olympique Lyon ended Cristiano Ranaldo European dreams. They ended Manchester City’s hopes of European glory. They were called the giant slayers.

Then they came across Bayern Munich. The Bavarian giants are in the form of their lives. Hansi Flick has made them a force of nature.

They do not stop coming at you. For the duration of 90 minutes, you have to put them off. Barcelona learnt it the hard way and were thrashed 2-8. It was an embarrassing night for Lionel Messi and co.

The match started brightly. As brightly as Rudi Garcia would have hoped for. In the first quarter-hour, Olympique created more threatening chances. Memphis Depay should have given them the lead.

Depay’s misses would come back to haunt them. Bayern do not forgive and the French side soon found out.

Joshua Kimmich’s long pass made his way to Serge Ganabry. The man who failed to make the grade at Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion showed his true class to score his ninth goal of the Champions League campaign.

He would add to his tally fifteen minutes later. Anthony Lopes saved a certain goal from Robert Lewandowski but the ball fell into Gnabry’s path. The prolific Germany international would not miss it from six yards out and made it 2-0.

It was game over at that point as Bayern grew into the fixture with every single minute. They were the more threatening side as Lyon barely held together before half-time.

Akin to RB Leipzig last night, Lyon came roaring into the second half. They looked more potent but their attacks were thwarted by the Germans. Alphonse Davies’ pace was too much for the French side’s attackers to get past.

Moussa Dembele did not have a great night as he replaced Depay. Houssem Aouar was Lyon’s best player as he tried in vein to get his side into the fixture. Karl Toko Ekambi also continued to impress. He combined brilliantly with Aouar but could not get past Manuel Neuer.

Bayern used their greater ball possession and undying intensity to good effect. They continued to pressure the French side and it paid dividends in the 88th minute.

Maxwel Cornet tripped Thomas Muller, and Kimmich stood on top of the ball. His cross was met by Lewandowski, who headed it home.

When referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz blew the whistle for full time, it was a deserved 3-0 victory for Bayern. They outclassed their rivals on the night and progressed to Champions League final.
