The Bavarians hope to find a replacement for Manuel Neuer ahead of the Bundesliga’s return.
Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic reveals the German giants are considering a move for Yann Sommer.
The Bavarians were rocked by the news of Manuel Neuer’s unexpected injury after the World Cup. Having broken his leg during the vacation, the experienced keeper will stay sidelined until the end of the season.
Bayern have started their efforts to find a replacement as they prepare to return to action next Friday. Returning Alexander Nubel from his loan deal at Monaco was reportedly Bayern’s first choice.
However, the Bundesliga champions have now shifted their focus toward signing Sommer.
Asked whether the club are considering a move for the Swiss international, Salihamidzic responded to Sky Sports: “I don’t like talking about players of other clubs, but it’s definitely a topic, of course.
“We are considering our options and will make a decision in the near future.”
Bayern completed a shock move for Daley Blind just before travelling to Doha for a training camp. The Bavarians are also on the verge of signing Konrad Laimer, who will join them as a free agent next summer.
Signing Sommer would provide Bayern with a reliable goalkeeper until the end of the season. However, it will most likely convince Nubel to make his move to Monaco permanent at the end of the season.
