The Canadian defender has emerged as a top transfer target for Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich director Christopher Freund has insisted the club are eager to keep Alphonso Davies amid interest from Real Madrid.

Davies has developed into one of Europe’s best left-backs since completing a €11.3m move to Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps. The Canada international’s performances have attracted interest from Real Madrid, who’ve been closely following his situation in the past two transfer windows.

With Davies’ contract set to expire in 2025, reports have intensified on his potential departure from Bayern Munich next summer. However, Freund is optimistic that the German giants will keep Davies beyond his current deal.

“There has been speculation for a long time. Phonzy has a contract with us until 2025,” Freund told Bild.

“I am convinced that he really enjoys playing for FC Bayern. We would really like him to stay at Bayern longer. We will have talks.”

Earlier this week, a report from Sky Germany claimed that Real Madrid are planning to send an official offer at the beginning of the summer transfer window. Bayern, on the other hand, hope to reach a final conclusion in their contract talks with Davies in the spring.
