The German and European champions have made the decision to bid farewell to one of the longest-serving players after the conclusion of this season.

Bayern Munich and Jerome Boateng are set to part ways with each other, the club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed.

Boateng signed for Bayern back in 2011 after an unsuccessful stint in the Premier League with Manchester City.

The defender was able to find his groove in Germany and gradually established himself as an indispensable figure in the Bundesliga champions’ backline.

One of the most decorated players in their squad, he boasts 21 major honors including eight back-to-back German top-flight crowns and two Champions League trophies.

The 32-year-old, whose current deal expires in the summer, is now approaching the end of his illustrious Bayern career as the club has decided against handing him a contract extension.

“That was a joint decision of the club’s management and the coach was also involved in it,” explained Salihamidzic, speaking to Sky

“I explained it to Jerome, and he was very understanding.”

Boateng remains a reliable option at the back and it will interesting to see where he plays the next season, with interest reported from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
