Gladbach came back from behind to end Bayern Munich’s seven-game winning streak.

Borussia Monchengladbach defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 in their Bundesliga game on Friday. Bayern suffered their third league defeat of the season as Gladbach clinched another victory at Allianz Arena.

Everyone except Gladbach!

No team in the history of Bundesliga has beaten Bayern Munich more than Monchengladbach. The trend has continued this season as Julian Nagelsmann has struggled against Die Fohlen.

Gladbach defeated Bayern in a pre-season game in July before holding them to a 1-1 draw in Bundesliga a month later. Adi Hutter’s side then crushed the Bavarians 5-0 in a DFB Pokal game as they eliminated the Bavarians from the competition.

Bayern came into the Friday game without a host of their first-team players. A mixture of Covid outbreak, international duty, and injuries kept 10 Bayern players out of the game.

However, the hosts made a promising start to the game. Nagelsmann’s side quickly gained possession while putting Gladbach under pressure. Their impressive attacking work paid off when Robert Lewandowski scored the opener in the 18th minute.

Gladbach immediately started their efforts to come back into the game, and they soon found out about Bayern’s weaknesses. Florian Neuhaus scored the equalizer in the 27th minute. Following a poor clearance from Joshua Kimmich, the German international drilled the ball through the legs of Sven Ulreich.

Gladbach stunned Bayern by completing their comeback only four minutes later. Luca Netz’s corner found Stefan Lainer, who fired a header past Ulreich from the near post.

Nagelsmann made a few changes to his side in the second half. However, the quality of Bayern’s bench was not enough to change the direction of the game. Several impressive saves from Yann Sommer prevented Lewandowski from finding the back of the net in the second half. The Swiss keeper once again led his side to an unexpected victory against Bayern.

Gladbach ended a run of five winless games with their victory against Bayern. Hutter’s side climb up to 11th place on the league table ahead of their next league match against Leverkusen.

On the other hand, Bayern remain on top of the table despite suffering their third defeat of the campaign. Bayern will face Koln in their next league game on Saturday.
