During his official last statement as Barcelona’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu blamed everybody but himself before leaving.
Josep Maria Bartomeu made his resignation as Barcelona’s president official. He did it in front of all the local media outlets through a statement. Very much in the line with what he usually did, Bartomeu refused to acknowledge everything he did wrong throughout so many years at the club.
To the overwhelming majority of the FC Barcelona associates, he is the most harmful president in the club’s history. But instead of accepting his terrible mandate, Bartomeu decided to blame the Catalan government and use that as an excuse to resign. However, his final decision as the club’s president clouded what could’ve been a happy day for all Blaugrana fans.
He confirmed that before presenting his resignation, he agreed on forming part of the new European Super League. An initiative that has been rejected by FIFA as a complete bust but Bartomeu defends as the only way to save the club from bankruptcy.

In his full statement that you can find on Sport, Bartomeu spoke about several subjects. He denounced threats against him and his family. But he mostly praised himself and all the accomplishments he had during his term without taking any responsibility for all the bad moments the club went through.
“I want to communicate my resignation and that of the full board. This is a premeditated decision, a serene choice and agreed by all my colleagues. We received an answer from the Generalitat and it’s pretty clear: There are no legal or health obstacles to prevent the ‘no confidence vote’ id we include all the PROSICAT prerequisites.
“Plain and simple. They ignored our requests in order to have all the logistics prepared with all the health measures to have the vote. This is the reason we are resigning. We also accepted getting the club into a football clubs’ European Superleague.
“A decision that the next board will have to make alongside all the club’s associates. We’ve approved the new format for the all-new club world cup. The European Superleague will make the club remain with all the associates.”
