Nicolo Barella says Inter’s stalemate with Napoli was a valuable point rather than two points dropped in their Serie A title chase.
Nicolò Barella saw the 1-1 draw away to Napoli as ‘a valuable point’ for Inter in the Scudetto race.
The Nerazzurri saw their 11-game winning streak halted by a bizarre Samir Handanovic own goal, but Christian Eriksen grabbed a point away to Napoli.
Napoli knew a win would put them joint fourth with Juventus, while the Nerazzurri were after a 12th consecutive Serie A victory. However, both sides went on to share the spoils in what was a fair result given the performances at both ends.
With Milan beating Genoa in an earlier fixture, Inter’s lead at the top might have been reduced but Barella insists it is a point gained instead, especially given their opponents on the day.
“It’s no secret our objective is the Scudetto, this is a valuable point and we’ll see at the end of the season how useful it was” Barella told Sky Sport Italia.
“We have found our identity, we know that we have the strikers who can change the game from one moment to the next.
“We all play our part and give our contribution, working well together as a team.”
Inter still boast a healthy lead at the top of the Serie A standings, although it has now been reduced to nine points. For their next outing, Inter will travel to take on Spezia on Wednesday.
