Erling Haaland is quickly becoming FC Barcelona’s top target for next summer but first, they need to complete a list of priorities.
Joan Laporta has a clear idea of Erling Haaland as his top target to play at FC Barcelona next season. Given the club’s delicate financial situation, there is a number of priorities he needs to complete before going after the Norway international. For the first order of business, the new president needs to speak directly to the Catalonia banks in order to get an extension on the massive debt. We can’t forget FC Barcelona currently owes a little under €1 billion to a number of banks.
After this gets sorted, there are many players who are considered transferable for the upcoming window in the summer. We will go through every single one of these players who need to leave in order to open space for Haaland. The price on the kid’s transfer will be around €150 million, which means Barcelona needs to sell some of their priciest players. Goodbye to the French contingent.
FC Barcelona spent nearly €300 million in two French players, who are Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele. This was their last opportunity to prove they are worthy to remain at the Catalan club but they couldn’t match the expectations. There is no way Barcelona will get half of the money they spent for both of them. However, there’s still a good chance they will leave the club. Also, Samuel Umtiti’s time at the club is completely over, and will leave as soon as the season is over.
Clement Lenglet is also one of the least likely to remain at the club. With his possible exit, this will only leave one player from the French contingent at the club: Jean-Clair Todibo. Other players like Miralem Pjanic, Junior Firpo, and Phil Coutinho are most likely leaving in order to clear the room for Erling Haaland. If Laporta manages to do all that before the end of the season, he has a chance to sign the young star.
