Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has tested positive for coronavirus. The club confirmed on Friday evening.
It’s not been a good past few days for Barcelona on the medical front. Samuel Umtiti becomes yet another name to be diagnosed with coronavirus.
On Wednesday, Jean-Clair Todibo revealed he tested positive for the virus as he resumed for pre-season duties.
Barely 48 hours since then, the club have now confirmed yet another case with Samuel Umtiti.
A statement on the club’s website says the player is in good health and self-isolating at home.
“After the PCR tests carried out on Thursday the first team player Samuel Umtiti has tested positive for Covid-19. The players is asymptomatic, is in good health and is isolating at home.”
“The Club has informed the relevant sporting and health authorities as well as tracing all the people who have had contact with the player so that they can undergo the corresponding PCR tests.”
Quite a relief that Umtiti did not travel with his teammates to Lisbon ahead of their clash with Bayern Munich later tonight.
Due to the recent issues, reports claim Barca might consider some slight social-distancing rules in training.
Not just Barcelona, a number of La Liga players have also been recently diagnosed with the virus.
