After witnessing a breakthrough campaign in 2022/23, Barcelona have acted swiftly to tie down the future of one of their youth team products.
Alejandro Balde, has pledged his future to FC Barcelona by accepting a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2028.
The 19-year-old left-back’s new deal includes a release clause worth €1 billion.
Balde, whose meteoric rise has captured the hearts of fans, will put pen to paper during a presentation scheduled for Thursday. He will be joined by club president Joan Laporta.
According to a club statement, the event will take place at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. It will begin at 13:15 (CEST).
How has Balde done at Barca?
Balde’s new contract is a testament to his rapid progress through the ranks at Barcelona. Having joined the club’s youth academy in 2011, he ascended swiftly to the first team.
The teenager started featuring in competitive games for Barcelona’s senior squad in 2021/22, debuting against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in 2021.
Over the past few seasons, Balde has gone from strength to strength. He made the left-back position his own in 2022/23, relegating seasoned veterans like Jordi Alba and Marcos Alonso to the bench.
In total, Balde has made 55 appearances for the Barcelona first team, contributing with one goal and six assists.
