Barcelona: Xavi's "number one" right-back target revealed

The Catalans hope to add more depth to their defence line in the upcoming transfer window.

Barcelona are reportedly considering Joao Cancelo as their main candidate for the right-back position.

Cancelo left Manchester City mid-season to join Bayern Munich on a surprising loan deal. Despite his brilliant performances for the Bavarians, the German side are still reluctant to sign him permanently.

The situation has apparently caught the attention of Barcelona, who are in the market for a new right-back.
According to RAC1, Cancelo tops Barca’s list for the position, considering him an ideal summer signing.

The Spanish source claims the Catalans even showed interest in adding Cancelo to their ranks in the winter. However, their financial situation didn’t allow a mid-season move for the Spaniard.

Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Bayern, Cancelo has established himself as a regular starter at Allianz Arena. However, the club are yet to enter negotiations with City over a permanent move.

Widespread reports in English and German media claim Bayern have a €70 million option to make Cancelo’s move permanent. But the German giants will only sign the defender if City agree to a lower fee.

Barca, on the other hand, also prefer to sign Cancelo on a loan transfer. However, they could face stiff competition from the 28-year-old’s suitors in the Premier League, who push for a permanent move in the upcoming transfer window.
