The Spanish forward has failed to establish a regular starting spot under Xavi this season.
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez urges Ansu Fati to take Marcus Rashford’s example and regain his best form.
A string of serious injuries prevented Fati’s career from taking off at Barcelona. The forward has struggled to find his place in Xavi’s plans since the manager’s arrival last season.
Xavi has repeatedly backed Fati to find his rhythm at Camp Nou amid interest from a number of Premier League sides. The manager has now compared the Spaniard’s situation with that of Rashford at Man Utd.
“He has the potential to be,” he responded when he asked whether Fati can become Barca’s equivalent to Rashford. “It is clear we have a lot of hope in him.
“We will give him confidence. Performance will mark his development. He will be important. He is being and will be.”
After a period of disappointing displays under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Rashford has regained his best form under Erik ten Hag this season.
A similar comeback for Fati could provide Barca with a new creative force up front. Xavi’s side have, nevertheless, registered brilliant attacking stats in La Liga, scoring 43 goals so far this season.
The Catalans will host Cadiz in their next league game on Sunday.
