The new boss doesn’t deny that things are not going according to script right now, but he advocates that he will get the Catalan club back on track.

FC Barcelona’s “main objective” for the 2021-22 season is to seal a top-four La Liga finish, insists Xavi Hernandez while also emphasizing the need to secure silverware.

Xavi has had little time to steady the ship at Barcelona, having replaced Ronald Koeman as the head coach only in the first week of November. Of the six games he has managed so far, only two have ended in victory for the club.

The former Al-Sadd boss has had to place his faith in academy products due to injury concerns for some players and poor form for others.

Nevertheless, Xavi – a man who helped the club to add a staggering 25 new trophies to their cabinet during his playing days – chooses to remain optimistic.

“The main objective is to finish in the top four and to win titles,” the 41-year-old emphasized in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona vs Elche.

“Nothing can be ruled out, we are a long way behind the leader but I have great confidence in the squad.

“The results aren’t coming, but I am confident. The feelings are better and positive, even if the results aren’t.

“Tomorrow is another huge test.”
