The Catalans will have to play their next two games without the influential striker.
Xavi Hernandez expects Ansu Fati to lead Barcelona’s attacking line as Robert Lewandowski serves his three-game ban.
Having missed out on Barca’s narrow victory over Atletico Madrid earlier this month, Lewandowski must stay out of two more La Liga clashes.
The likes of Ousmane Dembele, Ferran Torres, and Raphinha have mostly covered for the polish striker’s absence in recent games.
Fati’s poor form has prevented him from finding a starting spot in Barca’s attacking line this season. But Xavi expects the youngster to use Lewandowski’s ban to his benefit.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga match against Getafe, Xavi said: “He plays a decisive role in the team. He makes a difference and has that great communion with the goal.
“He is decisive and is being important for the team, and more so in the games that Robert is not there due to suspension he has to be a reference.”
Barcelona claimed their first trophy under Xavi when they defeated Real Madrid in the Super Cup final last Sunday. The Spanish manager urges his side to continue their fantastic run of form upon their return to La Liga.
“This victory against Madrid means a lot to us, it gives us confidence and morale and makes us believe more,” Xavi added.
“Now is the time to maintain our level and compete and fight for the three remaining titles.”
