The Barca midfielder limped off the pitch in his side’s goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has given a positive update on Pedri’s injury after his substitution against Rayo Vallecano.

The Barca manager subbed Pedri off in the 72nd minute of his side’s first game of the season. Given the youngster’s injury records, fans were worried that he might be set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However, Xavi has now confirmed Pedri’s injury is not serious.

“Pedri had discomfort and that is why we changed him,” the Barca boss said post-match. “But now they have done tests on him and it is nothing serious. There is no injury.”

Pedri missed a good chunk of the last season but became a major force in Xavi’s midfield unit upon his return. Xavi replaced Pedri with Frank Kessie after the 19-year-old’s injury.

However, the Ivorian failed to inspire Barca to victory as they ended the game with a frustrating goalless draw.

“I understand the disappointment, expectations are really high,” the Barca manager added. “We will have to analyse the game, improve and keep believing in the model of play.

“Rayo defended well. It was harder for us to create than usual. It’s disappointing, but we ask for patience.”

Barcelona will now prepare to meet Real Sociedad in their next league game.
