The Catalans bid farewell to Jordi Alba, who played at Camp Nou for 11 years.

Barcelona won’t sign a replacement for Jordi Alba this summer, confirms Xavi Hernandez.

Alba ends his glorious spell with Barcelona at the end of the season. The 34-year-old remained a key player in Barca’s backline this season, claiming his sixth La Liga title under Xavi.

However, the impressive development of Alejandro Balde has convinced Barca against signing another left-back.

“We won’t sign a new left back this summer to replace Alba; we have Balde and Marcos Alonso,” the 43-year-old said (via Fabrizio Romano).

“We need Busquets replacement. It will depend on Financial Fair Play situation. I want smart, determined pivot who wins duels”.

Reports have also emerged on Jules Kounde’s possible departure this summer. The Frenchman is reportedly demanding more playing time, but Xavi counts him as a crucial player for Barca’s backline.

“Once again, with Koundé there is not and there has not been any problem. He’s a fundamental piece of our team,” he added.

“Jules is a top professional, we’re very happy with him. I don’t understand why on the media people report that there are problems. No issues, at all.”

Xavi’s men will meet Mallorca in their next La Liga game this Sunday.
