The Dutchman has struggled for minutes at Barca since Robert Lewandowski’s arrival in the summer.

Xavi Hernandez has insisted Memphis Depay has an important place in his Barcelona squads despite reports about his possible departure.

Depay has made only three appearances under Xavi so far this season, slipping behind Barcelona’s other attacking options. Despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exit in the summer, the arrival of Robert Lewandowski has still limited Depay’s role significantly.

Rumours about the 28-year-old’s possible return to Manchester United have intensified since after the World Cup. But Xavi insists he wants to continue the season with his current squad.

“We are who we are, and we are happy. The players want to win and they show me that in every training. I’m so happy with what I have,” he told a press conference.

“I don’t want anyone to leave. I’m delighted with the squad. It seems that there will be no market for us.

“I’m happy with Depay. His attitude is good and will be important to us. He has the ability to make a difference. He will have minutes, just like everyone else.”

Barcelona returned to La Liga with a 1-1 draw in the Catalan derby against Espanyol. Xavi’s men will take on third-tier side Intercity in the Copa del Ray before facing Atletico Madrid in La Liga next Sunday.
