The Catalans are keen to increase their squad depth in midfield.
Barcelona reportedly have four players on their radar as Xavi aims to add a new midfielder to his squad.
Sergio Busquets’ departure last summer forced the Catalans to sign Oriol Romeu. The former Girona star has found a decent start to his career under Xavi, but Barca are aiming to further bolster their midfield line.
According to ESPN, Joshua Kimmich stays as a key target for Barcelona as they hope to convince him for a summer switch next year. By then, the German international will enter the final year of his current contract at Bayern Munich.
In addition to Kimmich, two Premier League midfielders are also on Xavi’s radar. Arsenal’s Jorginho and Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara are more affordable candidates to join the Catalans, while Real Betis’ Guido Rodriguez is another midfield target.
Jorginho has slipped behind Declan Rice and Thomas Partey in Arsenal’s pecking order this season. He was linked with a move to Fenerbahce last summer but decided to stay at Arsenal and fight for a lineup spot.
Thiago, on the other hand, has been dealing with continuous fitness problems at Liverpool this season. A potential return to Barcelona could be appealing for the midfielder, who is edging closer to the final years of his career.
