Los Blancos had a ruthless edge to their advantage and ended up coming out on top in a pretty tight encounter at Camp Nou.

Real Madrid rose to the top of the La Liga table following a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals FC Barcelona on Sunday.

Barcelona were already enduring a shaky season, and this defeat only piles up the pressure on them as they continue to occupy the 8th spot after nine games.

The scoreline, though, does not represent the whole story as the two sides were pretty much even for the majority of the match. In fact, Ronald Koeman’s men dominated possession and created more chances, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side were incisive on the break and made the most of their shots.

David Alaba made his El Clasico debut memorable by breaking the deadlock with an excellent left-footed finish into the top-right corner. The former Bayern Munich man’s goal was the climax of a beautiful counter-attacking move that he himself had started.

It appeared as if the crowd at Camp Nou had seen all the goalscoring action the historic fixture had to offer, but then came two more goals in stoppage time.

Lucas Vazquez doubled the visitors’ to finish off yet another counter-attacking move before while Sergio Aguero pulled one back in the sixth minute of added time, scoring his first goal in Barcelona colors.
