The Catalans are still in the race for Haaland, but Manchester City appear to be closer to securing the Norwegian’s signature.
The transfer race for Erling Haaland is reaching its peak as we get closer to the summer transfer window. Several elite clubs are closely following the situation around Haaland’s move, with some being closer to finalizing a deal than the others.
In recent weeks, Manchester City have appeared to be the front-runners to secure the services of the Norwegian striker.
The Premier League giants are racing against Real Madrid and Barcelona, who are also willing to pay the Borussia Dortmund star’s €75m release clause.
In a new interview, Barcelona’s vice president Rafa Yuste has spoken about the Catalans’ chances of signing Haaland.
“I can’t say that the deal is off as you never know in football. But it’s very, very difficult,” he told Marca.
“We won’t proceed with any deal that would create problems to our financial situation.”
Barcelona are in the midst of a squad rebuild under their new manager Xavi Hernandez. Haaland could be their missing piece of the puzzle to recover from Lionel Messi’s departure completely. However, the club might look for other options in case Haaland decides to continue his career elsewhere.
Last week, reports emerged of Barca’s interest in signing Robert Lewandowski, whose contract situation at Bayern remain uncertain. The Spanish giants are also following the contract negotiations between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool, reportedly looking for a potential opportunity to bring the Egypt star to Camp Nou.
