The Catalans have been dealing with an injury crisis in their squad after the international break.
Barcelona confirmed Franck Kessie has sustained a thigh injury during a team training on Wednesday.
An official statement from the club reads: “The first team player Franck Kessie has a strained adductor muscle in his right thigh. He is ruled out and his recovery will dictate his return.
“The injury occurred in training on Wednesday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.”
The statement came after Barca revealed Andreas Christensen had picked up an ankle injury in their 1-0 defeat against Inter on Tuesday.
Ligament damage will see Christensen stay out of action for around a month while Kessie is expected to return in ten days.
Barca have seen seven first-team players join their injury list since the start of the recent international break.
Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay sustained injuries while on international duty with Netherlands. Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde also returned to Camp Nou with injuries, while Hector Bellerin picked up a knock during a Barcelona training.
The Catalans must go into a crucial part of the campaign with some of their best players. Xavi’s men must face Celta Vigo on Sunday before meeting Inter in a crunch Champions League battle three days later.
The Catalans must then prepare for their next El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 9.
