Fresh speculation has arisen in Barcelona amid news that the Catalan giants’ highly-acclaimed transfer guru, Mateu Alemany, is set to remain with the club.

Mateu Alemany, the director of football for Barcelona, has reversed his decision and will continue to stay with the club instead of leaving for Aston Villa!

Despite reaching a verbal agreement with Aston Villa, Alemany has had a change of heart. He will not join the Premier League club, opting to continue with his work at Barca – just a fortnight after announcing his departure.

According to ESPN, Alemany changed his mind following talks with the Barcelona hierarchy this week, and Deco will now work alongside him on recruitment.

Deco is a former midfielder that played for Barca between 2004 and 2008. The 45-year-old has worked as an agent since retiring in 2013, representing the likes of current Blaugrana star Raphinha in his new career. He will have to leave his agency to take up a role at Spotify Camp Nou.

Sporting director Jordi Cruyff, on the other hand, is still on his way out. The Dutchman’s contract expires this summer and he is keen on embarking on ‘new professional endeavors’.
