The Catalans are on the verge of signing a new midfielder.
Ilkay Gundogan has reportedly accepted a two-year offer from Barcelona.
The Manchester City start has been the Catalans’ top-priority target in the current transfer window. Barca’s uncertainties over registering their new signings haven’t held them back from adding the world-class midfielder to their ranks.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Gundogan has reached an agreement with Barcelona over a two-year deal. The player also has the option to extend his contract until 2026.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mundo Deportivo claimed Gundogan has already completed his medical at Barcelona. The club are reportedly planning to tie the German star down to a €500m release clause.
Similar to the transfers of Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde, Xavi has played a key role in convincing Gundgoan to join the Catalans.
In Gundogan, Barca will have an experienced star who can cover different positions in midfield. The German international will link up with his former Borussia Dortmund teammate Robert Lewandowski at Barca.
Pep Guardiola reportedly pushed hard to keep Gundogan at Etihad ahead of his side’s quest to defend three titles next season. However, the prospect of taking on a new challenge at Barca has been attractive enough to persuade the 32-year-old to join a new league.
