In a fresh blow for the Catalan club, Sergino Dest has suffered a potential season-ending injury.

Barcelona have announced Sergino Dest has suffered a hamstring injury.

The right-back has endured an injury-plagued campaign so far. He’s been injured four times and had coronavirus. This has caused him to miss 12 games in total and spend 72 days on the sidelines. In fact, he only returned this month from a biceps femoris muscle injury.

Now Dest has succumbed to another injury after coming off at half-time in Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Sunday.

“Tests carried out on the first team player Sergino Dest have confirmed that the player has injured the semitendinosus muscle in his right hamstring,” read a statement from Barcelona.

“The player is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.”

How long could Dest be out?

According to journalist Gerard Romero, Dest’s latest injury could sideline him for four to six weeks. If that is the case, the 21-year-old’s campaign is effectively over.

As things stand, Barcelona only have five La Liga games left to play before the season ends. They’ll next face Mallorca this Sunday and will meet Villarreal in their final game on May 22.
