The Rojiblancos are keen to go into the second half of the season with a new forward.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Barcelona’s Memphis Depay this winter.

Depay has struggled for minutes under Xavi since the arrival of Robert Lewandowski in the summer. Having already admitted his interest in leaving Barca, Depay has attracted interest from a number of clubs.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico are keen to sign Depay this month.

The Sky Sports journalist claims that Diego Simeone wants to sign a replacement for Joao Felix, who’s on the verge of joining Chelsea.

Depay’s contract will expire in the summer, but Atletico will most likely push to sign the Dutch star in January. The Spanish giants might have to compete with a number of clubs to sign Depay.

Manchester United have long been linked with returning Depay, while Newcastle have also emerged as suitors for the experienced forward.

Despite the links, however, Xavi has insisted he wants Depay to continue at Barca.

“I don’t want anyone to leave,” Xavi said. “I’m happy with the squad. It seems there won’t be a market for us.

“I’m happy with Depay. His attitude is good and he will be important for us. He has the ability to make a difference. He’ll have minutes. Like all of them.”
