Xavi Hernandez will meet a group of Barcelona officials in Qatar over the coming days.

Barcelona are intensifying their efforts to secure Xavi Hernandez’s return to the club.

The Catalans sacked Ronald Koeman last week, ending his underwhelming spell at the club. Barcelona are considering club legend Xavi Hernandez for the job. However, closing a deal for the Al Sadd manager has proved to be harder than expected.

According to TV3, Barcelona are planning to send Vice-president Rafa Yuste and director Mateu Alemany to Qatar. The pair will travel to the middle-east country after Barca’s Champions League game against Dynamo Kyiv

Al Sadd published an official statement about their manager last week, showing their unwillingness to let the Spaniard go.

“In response to what’s circulating recently, the #AlSadd management reaffirms that Xavi has a two-year contract with the club and is fully focused on the team’s upcoming matches, to maintain our lead at the top of the league and to defend the title.” the statement reads.

According to the Spanish source, Barcelona are planning to announce Xavi’s appointment on Thursday. In that case, the club legend could sit on Barca’s bench for their game against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
