Dani Alves is available as a free agent, but Barcelona and their new coach have different priorities.

Since Xavi’s appointment as the new Barcelona manager, rumours around Dani Alves’ potential return to the club have intensified.

Alves has been out of work since leaving Sao Paulo in September. The Barca legend is looking to join a club where he can spend the last years of his career.

However, according to Marca, Barcelona are not considering a move for Alves. Xavi and the club’s management want to focus on youth development, with a move for Alves not considered.

Alves reportedly spoke with Barcelona officials after their game against Dynamo Kyiv last week. However, Barca are only willing to hire the Brazilian as part of their staff and not as a player.

Alves is the most decorated footballer ever, with most of his honours coming from his time at Camp Nou. The Brazilian defender featured in 391 matches for Barcelona, winning 23 trophies at the club.

With Alves’ out of the speculations, it remains to be seen who will be Xavi’s first signing at Barca.

Al Sadd’s Baghdad Bounedjah and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling have emerged as the club’s top priorities for the winter. However, the club’s financial problems might affect their choices in the transfer market.
