The Barcelona youngster leaves Camp Nou to continue his career in the US.

LA Galaxy have confirmed the signing of Riqui Puig on a free transfer after his departure from Barcelona.

Puig had a year left on his Barca deal. However, his struggles to secure a spot in Xavi Hernandez’s lineup has convinced him to end his stay at Camp Nou.

“We are pleased to welcome Riqui to the LA Galaxy,” LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney said in a statement. “Riqui is a very technical and well-educated player with incredible experiences for his age. He will fit seamlessly into our group and style of play.”

Barcelona sell Puig amid their ongoing efforts to reduce their wage bill ahead of the next season.

Before the Spaniard’s departure, Philippe Coutinho, Oscar Mingueza, Dani Alvez and Rey Manaj had left the Catalan side on permanent deals.

Puig broke into Barcelona’s first team in 2018, following a five-year spell at the La Masia academy. However, he only made 56 appearances for the Catalans amid serious competition in their midfield line.

Xavi Hernandez has decided to offload Puig while considering the likes of Pedri and Nico Gonzales as key players in his squad.

According to Spanish sources, Memphis Depay will be the next player to leave the Spanish giants ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both have suitors in the Premier League. However, both players are reluctant to leave Camp Nou ahead of the new La Liga campaign.
