The Catalans will play in the Europa League after finishing third in Group C of the Champions League.

Inter smashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 in their Champions League game on Wednesday. The victory seals a last-16 spot for Inter, sending Barcelona to the Europa League.

The Nerazzurri put immense pressure on their guests’ backline early on but had to wait for 35 minutes before breaking the deadlock.

Following a cross from Alessandro Bastoni, Henrikh Mkhitaryan put Inter ahead with a precise header. Only seven minutes later, Edin Dzeko doubled Inter’s lead by converting Federico Dimarco’s cutback from close range.

The hosts continued their dominant performance in the second period, with Dzeko completing his brace in the 66th minute. Romelu Lukaku, who made his comeback from injury, then put the icing on the cake for Inter, scoring their fourth goal of the night.

The victory sends Inter into the knock-out stage while eliminating Barca from the competition. The Nerazzurri also have a chance to claim Group C’s top spot if Bayern drops points against Barcelona later tonight.

The Catalans crashed out of the Champions League for the second year in a row, a disappointing result after their heavy investment in the summer transfer window.

The relegation will most likely mount more pressure on Xavi, whose situation at Barca has grown unstable in recent weeks.

Let’s see if his side would manage to claim a redeeming victory against the German giants tonight.
