Gerard Pique has expressed his excitement over Lionel Messi’s possible return to Barcelona.

Messi left Barca after 21 years when the Catalans failed to renew his contract in 2021. A quick transfer to Paris Saint-Germain then followed Messi’s emotional farewell from the club.

The World Cup winner is now spending the final months of his two-year deal at Parc des Princes. Barcelona have emerged as a possible destination for Messi next summer.

In an interview with RAC1, Pique discussed his former teammate’s upcoming decision on his future.

“Only Leo knows his future,” the Spaniard said. “He won the World Cup, which was the great dream he had and the title he had left to win. He has won it and now no one can doubt he is the best in history.

“What he decides will be about where he can find happiness and if he wants to continue competing at the highest level.”

The retired star added: “If he continues to stay motivated, the most normal thing is for him to stay in Europe, and here Barca can enter into his plans.

“If he raises his arms and says it’s enough, maybe he’ll go to MLS. If he came back [to Barcelona], it would be an incredible thing for all the fans.”
