The Polish star is sidelined with an ankle injury.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has offered an update on his rehab process after picking up an ankle injury.

The Polish striker sustained the injury in Barcelona’s Champions League victory over Porto earlier this month. Initial reports claimed that Lewandowski won’t be back in time for his side’s match against Real Madrid on October 28.

However, it seems the 35-year-old’s rehab is progressing better than expected.

“From Wednesday to Friday I rested. I’ve been working and rehabilitating since Friday,” he told SportoweFakty“This is the most important time for my ankle to rest. There will be more to say next week, but it’s looking better than many people thought.

“There is no return date. It all depends on how the leg reacts. Real Madrid? If I’m not fit, I won’t force myself to play.”

Lewandowski is Barcelona’s top scorer in La Liga after scoring five goals in eight matches. In his absence, the Catalans failed to beat Granada in their final match before the international break.

Xavi Hernandez is dealing with a number of injuries in his squad ahead of El Clasico. Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Jules Kounde, and Raphinha have also been sidelined with fitness issues in recent weeks.

Barcelona will return to action with a La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao on October 22.
