Barcelona: Lewandowski can’t wait to link up with Messi

The Argentine icon is on Barca’s radar for a sensational return next summer.

Robert Lewandowski has expressed his excitement over Lionel Messi’s possible return to Barcelona.

The Argentine superstar left Camp Nou after more than two decades when he joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

As Messi edges closer to the expiration of his current deal at the French club, reports have emerged of his possible return to Barca as a free agent.

“Messi belongs to Barcelona, it’d be incredible to see him back here. We know his place is Barça,” Lewandowski said on Tuesday.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen but I hope that next season Messi can play here and we can be together.”

Lewandowski has scored 17 goals in 24 La Liga appearances since joining Barcelona last summer. Messi’s possible return next summer could see him continue his role as the team’s main striker, with Messi returning to his previous position as Barca’s No.10.

Reports about Messi’s possible return to Camp Nou have intensified in the past few weeks. According to Daily Mirror, Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, met Joan Laporta last weekend to discuss a potential summer transfer.

Barca, however, are under pressure from La Liga to reduce their wage bill. The club’s financial issues could prevent them from realizing the dream of having Messi back in their squad.
