The Catalans have stayed active in the transfer market despite their financial difficulties.
Barcelona are pushing to complete a move for Arda Guler ahead of the next season, club president Joan Laporta confirms.
Guler spent an incredible breakthrough campaign at Fenerbahce last season, helping them finish second in the Turkish Super Lig.
The 18-year-old’s impressive technique has earned him the nickname of the “Turkish Messi”, with a host of elite European sides showing interest in signing him.
Real Madrid, Newcastle, and Arsenal have been closely following Guler’s situation, but Barcelona have emerged as the favourites to sign him.
Earlier this week, reports emerged of Deco’s travel to Turkey. Laoprta has now confirmed the new sporting director is leading the talks for the teenage star.
“Deco was in Istanbul, he says that [Guler] is a great talent,” he told Esport 3.
“Now, La Liga allow us to carry out the operations that do not count for this year. Our scouting department was following him. We are trying to complete the deal.”
Guler registered four goals and three assists in his 20 league appearances last season. He also made his Turkey debut in November, registering his first international goal in a 2-0 win over Wales.
