The Catalans are heavily linked with a move for the Man City defender.
Barcelona are able to sign “more than one player” before the transfer window deadline, according to club president Joan Laporta.
The Catalans have added Inigo Martinez, Oriol Romeu, and Ilkay Gundogan to their ranks this summer. The club have also signed Brazilian teenager Vitor Roque, who will join them for the 2024-25 season.
Cancelo is the only major target who has yet to complete his move to Barcelona. Reports in the Spanish media have claimed the delay is a result of Barcelona’s financial issues. However, Laporta doesn’t rule out more additions to Barca’s squad in the remaining days of the transfer window.
“We will have space with Financial Fair Play to sign more than one player,” the club president said on Sunday.
Joao Felix has repeatedly expressed his desire to join Barcelona amid his struggle for playing time at Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese star has reportedly rejected offers from Saudi Arabia as he awaits an official bid from the Catalans.
Laporta didn’t confirm Barca’s interest in signing Felix, saying: “You should ask Deco [about Felix], he’s working on new signings.”
Barcelona will continue their La Liga campaign with a match against Osasuna next weekend.
