Financial issues might force the Catalans to sell the star midfielder this summer.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has provided updates on the club’s possible activities in the summer transfer window.

The Catalans are still trying to pursue Ousmane Dembele to sign a new contract while eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Signing the 33-year-old might be challenging for the Catalans, who are struggling with severe financial issues.

English media have widely reported about Manchester United’s interest in signing Frenkie de Jong. This could potentially provide the Catalans with enough funds to sign reinforcements this summer.

Speaking on Catalunya Ràdio, Laporta said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I don’t know if we will sell important players.

“If we complete some deals, maybe it won’t be needed. The priority is our financial situation, as of now”.

He added: “We’ll do our best for the club.”

Asked about Dembele’s contract situation, the club president responded: “We made our new deal proposal and we’re waiting for his answer, next week.

“He wanted to stay here at Barça but he’s now tempted by other options he considers better”.

Laporta didn’t rule out a new contract for Dani Alves. The 39-year-old has displayed convincing performances for the Catalans since his return in January.

“We’re now going to meet with Dani Alves so we can decide his future, he wants to play the World Cup.

“There’s a chance we can extend his contract for the next 6 months, we will see”.
