The German goalkeeper has called upon his club teammates to raise their game after they narrowly scooped out three points at Huesca.

A volleyed effort by Frenkie De Jong was enough for FC Barcelona to seal a win at El Alcoraz in Sunday’s La Liga outing.

Barcelona dominated in both the halves, having control of the ball and creating chances, but were largely ineffective in the final third.

Huesca were unable to cause any serious trouble for the visitors except on one occasion in the second half when Rafa Mir sent a back-heeled effort the towards goal as it trickled across the opposition penalty area. The shot, however, lacked power, and Marc Andre ter Stegen, despite reacting late, was able to produce a comfortable save.

Speaking after the 1-0 victory, Ter Stegen seemed content with his side’s performance but insisted that there is still a lot of room for improvement.

“Winning these types of games is what decides league titles,” the German shot-stopper said, via Marca.

“They are three super important points to start the year well, although it was a very difficult win because we weren’t able to kill the game with a second goal.

“We didn’t know how to kill off the game either in the first half or second half. We have to improve that. Other than that, I think we were very focused, especially in the first 35 minutes where I really liked what the team was doing.”
